Pixie building
The Pixie is a stitch and glue - tortured ply beach-cat built using 6 sheets of 4mm (3/16in) plywood. It has been kept as simple as possible, so the gunwale edge is straight. These photos (except the last) were taken from an excellent Uruguay Pixie builders blog
Panels are cutout and joined with a butt strap, so they look like this, note the gunwale edge is straight to make things easier
Then they are wired together and then fitted into a simple jig (which keeps the hull at a convenient working height and prevents the hull from twisting). Four bulkheads are fitted in and you have a boat! (well almost!)
A central deck stringer gives the shape of the deck.
Beam boxes are added and then the deck
Do it all again, make some simple timber box beams which just slot into the hulls (no metal fittings to make or buy)
and you have nearly finished!
